Tailgate\/Liftgate<\/b><\/h4>\n

Shipping differs from state to state just enough to make a difference. It\u2019s still moving cargo from one place to another, but subtleties do exist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For instance, our US colleagues call a tailgate (tomato) <\/span>a liftgate (<\/span><\/i>tomahto). One is at the tail of the truck, and the other lifts things.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Freight class<\/h4>\n

There are some actual differences, however, such as the class system (<\/span>defined by the NMFTA<\/span><\/a>) being used in the US, and not in Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

This classification system is a set of numbers ranging from 50 to 400 assigned to all LTL shipments moving to, from or within the US. This number helps the carrier <\/span>determine how easy and safe a shipment is to maneuver.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Taxes<\/h4>\n

Another point where the issue is not quite a simple tomato is taxation. <\/span>In Canada, shipments are taxed based on the destination province\u2019s tax legislation. <\/b>In the US, there are no taxes on freight shipping.<\/span><\/p>\n

In general, <\/span>carriers tend to be a bit more lenient in Canada than in the US<\/b>. They will not charge for an appointment where a US carrier might, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n
