That year, it replaced the hidden manufacturer\u2019s sales tax of 13.5%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GST is applied to most goods and services apart from some essentials such as residential rent, groceries, medical supplies, etc. These items are called tax-exempt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>goods and services tax is what will be applied during your shipment booking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Freightera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The amount applied varies from province to province and it\u2019s determined solely on the delivery location\u2019s province.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Exact GST Amounts in Canadian Provinces<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your shipment is going to <\/span><b>New Brunswick (NB), Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the amount is <\/span><b>15%.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re shipping to <\/span><b>Ontario<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the amount is <\/span><b>13%.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re shipping <\/span><b><i>within <\/i><\/b><b>Quebec<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the amount is <\/span><b>14.975%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re shipping <\/span><b>from outside of Quebec into QC <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">then the amount is <\/span><b>5%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And <\/span><b>anywhere in the rest of Canada<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the amount is also <\/span><b>5%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know all of this can get confusing which is why <\/span><b>we\u2019ve made our system simply calculate the amounts for you<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, if you\u2019re a curious mind or you\u2019d like to get an estimate of your own, then we hope this helps. \ud83d\ude42\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Provincial Sales Tax (PST)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The provincial tax is, naturally, specific to each province. It is sometimes <\/span><b>also known as the RST or the retail sales tax<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The amounts are the same as those we\u2019ve just listed above, so you don\u2019t have to worry about checking for additional numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quebec utilizes its own (almost harmonized with the GST tax) <\/span><b>called QST<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or the <\/span><b>Quebec sales tax<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Harmonized Sales Tax (HST)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>HST represents a harmonization or the combination of the provincial and goods and services taxes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Basically, it takes the other two and merges them into one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Canadian government wanted to make the HST universal, however, due to some provinces not agreeing to it, <\/span><b>it is only applicable in some (five to be exact) provinces such as Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland\/Labrador, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of the provinces above apply HST in the amount of 15% except Ontario where it\u2019s only 13%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Freight Shipping Taxes<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what does all this mean for shipping? As we mentioned in the intro, the only amounts that concern you are those of the goods and services tax (GST). For detailed numbers, you can check out the section above but in practical terms, you really don\u2019t have to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reason is that our system will automatically include the taxes during your payment phase of booking your pickup, which means that <\/span><b>there are people and systems in place to worry about the amounts for you<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that<\/span><b> the freight quote you receive will not include taxes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Find out what you needed to know?
