Client Care Manager For the Ages, a Problem Solver Extraordinaire, and a Pet Owner

Today we take a short break and a step back from freight shipping to celebrate one of the industry’s finest: Yelena Davidovic, the Client Care Manager at Freightera. We did a short interview with Yelena, where we talked about her and her experience at Freightera.

Yelena is a beloved colleague and a huge animal lover. She is the epitome of the Freightera culture which means that she cherishes creativity, openness, transparency, and comradery. When it comes to pets, her motto is “the bigger the better”. Other than her dog (Arthur, an Alaskan Malamute), Yelena also owns a (big) rabbit called Olaf and two cats named Tessa and Ezio.

How long have you been with Freightera?

“It will be 4 years at the end of March this year (2022.). Time flies!”

What are your three main duties during the day?

“My primary duty is to handle any issues that cannot be resolved by Client Care representatives. Secondly, I handle insurance claims with both the carriers and the customers; Lastly, I assist the team with any questions/problems they might be having that are blocking them in their tasks.”

How did you get into this line of work?

“I was working in tourism before and was looking for a change of environment. My boyfriend Mihailo, and another friend Ivan were working at Freightera at the time and there were a couple of spots open for hiring then.

They were convincing me that I should apply and try it out and it didn’t hurt that a lot of my friends were working at Freightera back then, so I knew it would be a really great surrounding. So, I applied and had all of my interviews with half of Freightera at the time and they offered me the position! Little did I know that I would really grow to love the company, the people I work with, and the kind of work that I do.”

What does your day/workday look like?

“Usually, I have plenty of messages and emails waiting for me when I get in, so I try to respond to as many of them as I can before it’s time for my regular meetings. After the meetings, I go back to defusing situations with clients and resolving any potential issues. I jump in where I can when the team needs help on how to handle some situations, following up on claims for our customers with the carriers and there’s plenty of work on various reports. :)”

What’s the best part of your job?

“Working so closely with so many wonderful people and having the team that I have.”

What motivates you to do your best at work?

“I enjoy the work that I do, so every day I try to give my all. I like having a sense of accomplishment. The more tasks I complete successfully, the better. “

What has your experience been with our company culture?

“I am very much for it because a lot of it represents who I am as a person. Because of this, I try to protect it as much as I can, especially when I hire new people to the team, as I want everyone to possess such qualities. Having them will only make us better at our jobs and at helping clients with their problems, and each employee represents Freightera and its values, so it’s important to have people that care.”

What is your team like?

“If I could describe them with only one word, it would be “selfless”. They are wonderful people, who are always willing to help with absolutely anything and who actually care about each other and the customers too. Many of them are friends outside of work, which only makes this environment better.”

What do you like most about working with them?

“The fact that they always ask a lot of questions and that they are not afraid to speak up if they are having a problem with something, whether it’s about a company process or a specific shipment.”

How have you grown professionally while on our team?

“I learned what it means to be a leader and how to be one for my team. I started out being a Customer Service Representative and I ended up a Client Care Manager, so I learned a lot along the way. I had wonderful mentors, but I’m especially grateful to Jackie Locke who made me the leader I am today. It is not something that is easy to do, but it is something in which I found myself.”

What’s the hardest part of your job?

“That would definitely be having to notify customers of occasional bad news related to their shipment, or having to explain to them that the extra charges they have are valid and why. Not so much for the process, but it’s always hard giving bad news to anyone.”

What does your ideal vacation look like?

“That would be going to a cabin in the middle of the woods, where it’s quiet, peaceful, and there’s not a lot of people, especially in the winter so I can bring my dog and he can run around happily. And then something similar to that would also involve a spa and thermal pools, while surrounded by nature and still having quiet. :)”
