Freightera and Supply Chain Canada launch The Nearshoring Directory, a potential sourcing solution that could revolutionize the way the supply chain works
COVID-related supply chain pressures, ship, and container shortages, combined with global transportation congestion, all have shaken international commerce. And now, particularly in Western Canada, natural disasters have increased the chaos. These challenges are forcing Canadian companies to fundamentally rethink how they do business. Nearshoring, restoring, and technology adoption are paving the way toward building resiliency and growing the economy.
Building resiliency in supply chains is about to get a little easier for Supply Chain Canada members
Freightera and Supply Chain Canada in the West have come together to provide a potential sourcing solution that could revolutionize the way supply chain professionals run their operations. The Nearshoring Directory – the first of its kind in Canada – will use artificial intelligence to mine shipping data to facilitate increased trade amongst North American buyers.
All Supply Chain Canada members and select partners are being granted early access to phase I of this unique portal of regularly updated products and materials bought and sold by a large database of North American companies. Subscribers will confidently understand what is being sold, when it’s being sold, and to whom. From medical supplies to beer tanks to isopropyl, users will have the power of knowing where to source high-quality local products at competitive prices.
The partnership between the two organizations is founded on the desire to fortify supply chains across the country and will build additional features using machine learning, user feedback, and local talent to build competitiveness, optimize operations, and reduce environmental impact.

HOW IT WORKS
More than 17,000 Canadian and US firms – primarily manufacturers, distributors, and importers – use Freightera to get all-inclusive, fixed-cost freight quotes and ship materials and products between facilities and to retail locations. Freightera tracks the description of these products and materials, the most recent date they were shipping, who is supplying them, their location, website, and phone number, and makes this information available to other members of the platform.
In partnership with Supply Chain Canada in the West, Freightera has created phase I of the Nearshoring Directory, making this data available to buyers and shippers seeking additional, regional, or local sources for needed industrial materials and products. The phase I, basic service is available at no cost to Supply Chain Canada members.
Established in Eastern Canada in 1919, Supply Chain Canada is a non-profit association, that is a Federation of the National Secretariat, Provincial, and Territorial Institutes who are working together to achieve a common vision – to ensure Canadian supply chain professionals and organizations are recognized for leading innovation, global competitiveness, and driving economic growth.
