FTL Freight Shipping

Everything you need to know about Full Truckload (FTL) freight shipping

FTL freight shipping moves loads that take up more than half of a trailer, or need a dedicated truck because of their size, weight, or handling needs (typically 10+ pallets, around 15,000-40,000 lbs, or freight that requires special equipment like reefers or flatbeds). When you ship FTL, you reserve the entire truck, and your freight gets shipped directly from origin to destination without terminal transfers.

In this section, you’ll find guidance on when to choose FTL vs. LTL, how FTL pricing works, how to pick the right equipment type (dry van, reefer, flatbed, etc.), and how to avoid extra charges.

This Freight Shipping Guide has been created by Freightera’s logistics team (with 20+ years of combined experience) and reviewed by co-founder and editor-in-chief Zhenya Beck. Our goal is to give our freight shippers clear, reliable information so they can ship with confidence and peace of mind.
